Motivational Monday: Beautiful Or Average?

Given the option between “Average” and “Beautiful” which description would you choose for yourself?

According to a new worldwide survey conducted by Dove, it revealed that a whooping 96% of women consider themselves to be average, leaving only 4% who believe that they are beautiful.

For their new Choose Beautiful campaign, Dove decided to illustrate the survey results with a video. Across five cities - Shanghai, San Francisco, London, Sao Paulo and Delhi, women were filmed in local shopping areas as they walked up to one of two doors marked with a sign that read “Average” or “Beautiful”. The camera followed the women to see which door they would choose to walk through and then to find out their thought process behind going through their chosen door.

Lets pause here for a moment as I put out a little disclaimer. I am well aware of the controversy behind Unilever and Dove in regards to some of the other products and brands they produce that is in complete contradiction to their message of “building women’s self esteem” and I am not in any way trying to promote Dove.

What I want to focus on is the video itself and the thought process of the women on what “average” and “beautiful” means, as I think it’s a belief that many of us also share.

Watching the video, it was incredible to see how many of the women choose to walk through the average door. It was also interesting to hear them reveal what made them choose that door. Some of the responses included:

1) ‘Am I choosing because of what's constantly bombarded at me and what I'm being told that I
should accept? "Or, am I choosing because that's what I really believe?’

2) 'It was confronting to see these signs, and to have to choose, and be self conscious of how you
perceive yourself and if it lines up with how the rest of the world perceives you.'

3) 'I regretted my choice because it was different to what I live for and what I live'

4) 'I had rated myself as average and nobody else.'

5) 'Beautiful, to me, is too far out of reach.'

Motivational Monday: Change Your Story

Have you ever felt trapped?

Stuck in a situation or something and feeling like you can’t see the wood for the trees…

Two weeks ago I felt stuck

One week ago I felt stuck

And then a few days ago I made a decision. I realised I had a choice in how this little story ended and just like that I changed my story.

I decided to stop focusing on what I wasn’t happy about and instead turn my focus onto what I wanted.

Has my situation changed? Not yet. But I’m a lot further along than where I was.

Just by making that decision to change the situation I was in and in realising that I didn’t have to stay where I was.

I have a new lift in my step and a lightness in my heart.

By taking action and moving forward, I know there will be a different ending.

So if you are feeling trapped in anyway, be it in a job, relationship, wanting to loose weight …or whatever it is.

Be encouraged to know that the story doesn’t have to end there; you can always change your story.

Have you ever felt stuck or trapped before? What did you do to get out of the situation? I would love to know in the comments below

Have a fantastic week.

Xx

Motivational Monday: Try one more time

Hey lovelies,

Hope you had a nice weekend

Sometimes, do you ever feel that you are driving along on a long road that just seems to keep going with no end in site?

I had been feeling like that a little bit quite recently

Then I heard the first hand account of a man who had applied for 12 jobs, felt like giving up and then decided to apply to just one more and guess what he got the job.

I made the decision there and then that I would keep my head above the water, change my perspective and keep going.

A few days after that, I got a huge ray of sunshine in the thing I was hoping for

So this post is as much for me as it is for you. When everything around you seems grey, hard and the road seems long.

Keep going, refuse to give up and listen to that little voice of hope within you that whispers ever so gently….why don’t you try one more time.

Hope you have a fantastic week ahead, something good is just around the corner.

Xx

Motivational Monday: You need to have a clear definition of who you are

Talking to a couple of friends recently, I came to the realisation that many times especially as women, we allow ourselves to be defined either by our circumstances or as others define us. For example as a friend, sister, girlfriend, wife, mother etc. or by our jobs and whether or not we have achieved certain things in life.

I had coffee with a friend the other day, and this friend is an amazing woman who I admire both for her heart, tenacity and just for who she is. She is in her late 30’s and isn’t married or dating anyone, and was having a hard time because she would like to be in a relationship and also because her parents had expressed their extreme disappointment about her not being married

They felt that the fact she wasn’t married was her fault and was bringing a form of (these were their words) “disgrace and shame to their whole family” I sat with this amazing friend of mine and tried to encourage her as she asked me if there was something wrong with her. No there was nothing wrong with her, yes she wasn’t in a relationship but that doesn’t define her, make her less of a person, bring shame on her family or stop her enjoying her life in her current season.

Motivational Monday: This Storm Shall Pass

Happy New Week my LPM Beauties,

I had a completely different post already written up for todays motivational Monday post but I was so inspired at about 5am this morning (or rather at 7am) at 5am I was actually a little scared... that I decided to write a whole new post.

For anyone in the UK, you will know that the weather reports have been regaling us with reports of a storm coming (to be honest I didn’t take it very seriously, I kind of thought they were exaggerating) Well, I stand corrected as I was woken up this morning at about 5am to what could only be described as gale force winds!
