Selfridges Beauty Workshop and Stila Foundations for darker skin

So following my recent post on the Selfridges Beauty Box , I unfortunately didn’t get a box, I did try to buy it as soon as I got the email, but just kept getting error messages until the site finally said they were out of stock!  Anyway, I thought I would pop into Selfridges to get a quick look at the first instalment of their new Beauty Workshop space.  First impressions, they didn’t have as many brands out as I was expecting (just my own wishful thinking there), which was a little disappointing, however  it looks like it will be quite interesting, so it's worth checking out once the final instalment is open.

I had a look at the Weave Got Style bar, and they happened to be installing some track lines on a client (using the threading method) which unfortunately meant that they couldn’t really stop to talk. I got a picture of the hair they have on offer and the texture seemed similar to some Remy brands I have felt in the past. Looking at their site, they don’t specify if they install weaves for women of colour, also looking at their website/press images, it doesn’t seem to suggest that either. Finally I stopped at the Stila counter, also in the Beauty Workshop space and spoke to the lovely Stephanie, who highlighted the new gorgeous lip “stay all day collection” as well as the foundations for darker skin tones.  Have a look at the clever packaging with the flip top mirror, concealer and brush all in one, it’s perfect for carrying on the go. I spotted a couple of shades that looked like they would be nice for my skin tone and a few other possible shades if you are lighter than me. I was in a bit of a rush but will definitely be trying it out properly the next time I’m there.

#34 Vogue's Fashion Night Out

So last Thursday evening I attended the launch of vogues fashion Night Out – a global retail event that saw the collaboration between the international editions of VOGUE and Designers, Department Stores, High Street and Beauty Stores. An evening extravaganza held from 6 to 11pm it included a whole range of activities from in-store events, inventive window displays, makeovers, workshops, live music performances to model and celebrity appearances.

Armed with my list of stores to attend (mainly high street – which unfortunately didn’t match up with my expectations of what would be happening) I found there was a definite buzz of excitement in the air and more crowds than ever on the busy streets of London. People seemed to turn out in droves and all were very determined to have fun. From the girls and school boy plus back pack (don’t ask why he was out so late) and people on the street dancing outside Debenhams (I will post a video on this soon) to the crowds gathered in Selfridges for the Icecreamists lounge. Incidentally the queues were so long I eventually had to leave – but plan to go back and try out one of their amazing sounding boutique ice creams. My absolute highlight of the evening has to be getting my Elemis goody bag filled with a couple of goodies I had been planning to get and meeting the lovely VVBrown at the Gap 1969 concept store on Kingly Street. She performed a few songs which were fantastic and in real life is even more stunning that you think and she was just so nice to everyone around her, happy to speak to and take pictures galore. Even though I didn’t manage to make it to all the stores on my list especially the designer stores where even more was meant to be happening - all in all it was a fab night – and with the news on the Vogue site about the success in retail sales – who knows it might just become an annual event.

#32 Chanel Fragrance Bar

Oh my goodness! I think i'm in Chanel heaven! The lovely people behind Chanel have only gone and opened up a new fragrance bar in Selfridges. Now in case you guys didn’t know, I have a love for all things Chanel, be it perfume, clothes etc and I am coveting one of their quilted bags – believing that one day the Chanel fairy will bear down on me with a bag - as my reward for my love over the years!!… Too big a dream? I think not!

But anyway moving on back to reality, the new and unique Fragrance Boutique “is an exclusive environment where you can experience the world of Chanel fragrance and indulge yourself in the luxury of scent". The area - is decorated with the house's legendary tweed fabrics - holds an Olfactive bar, and will house 48 Chanel fragrances as well as the 12 exclusive Les Exclusifs de Chanel fragrances, which are specially crafted scents. Trained perfume experts will also be on hand to helpfully guide you through the extensive library of scents and to pick one that is Oh So You!
