Product Review: Baba De Caracol Hair Conditioners

So would you ever think of using Snail Slime on your hair?

No? Well neither did I until I was sent some hair products from Baba de Caracol, a Dominican brand that recently launched in the UK by Diaspora Hair, and which uses Snail Slime as it’s main ingredient. Not exactly a sexy sounding ingredient but Snail Slime is an ingredient that is now used fairly regularly in some skincare.

It contains a complex mix of proteins, glycolic acids and elastin that nature developed as a way to protect snail skin from damage and infection. So is meant to help to strengthen, repair and soften your hair.

I took out some braids and thought my hair could do with a little bit of tlc and nourishment, so it seemed like the perfect time to try out the products.

The two products I was sent to try from the range were Rinse Regenerativo and Intensive Hair Conditioner

Rinse Regenerativo

I started out with Rinse Regenerativo, which is a conditioner but can also be used as a co-wash (conditioner wash) for your hair

What they say

Bring life, elasticity and shine back to your hair with our exclusive conditioner formula designed to eliminate dryness and split ends with allantoine. Detangles, softens and nourishes dry and damaged hair

What I thought
It had fantastic slip and really helped with detangling and softening my hair. It also helped to make combing and styling my hair afterwards really easy.

It retails for £8.50

Intensive Hair Conditioner

What they say

Hydrates and conditions dry and damaged hair. Bring life, elasticity and shine back to your hair. Designed to eliminate dryness and split ends, this nourishing conditioner detangles and softens with an amazing silky and shiny finish.

What I thought

I knew my hair needed some tlc and as soon as I put this on, my curls seems to bounce back with life. As a treatment, I kept it in for 20 minutes under a shower cap and towel and when I rinsed it out my hair felt nourished and soft.

The only thing I disliked about the Intensive Hair Conditioner was that it contained Mineral Oil, and this was quite high up in the ingredient list. I have mentioned this a few times in previous posts but Mineral Oil is an ingredient I truly dislike, simply because it doesn’t have any beneficial qualities for either your hair or skin. It also can’t be absorbed so just sits on the surface of the hair and skin, and can cause product build up and clogged pores. So it was a shame to have it in the list of ingredients.

Aside from that, I really liked the products and my hair was left feeling shiny and soft and nourished which was exactly what I was hoping for.

It retails for £10.00

I love your product reviews! I actually feel I can trust them. The products sound good - I might give that rinse regenerativo a try.

We kinky ladies can use it too right? I still don't have a go to conditioner and I always end up making one whenever I need to wash. I'd like to try these. It would save me some stress

Yes kinky girls can use it, I'm a kinky girl too :-) What is your hair like and what kind of conditioner are you looking for?

Awesome. My hair is '4C', with tight coils and ridiculous shrinkage. I need something that maximizes softness and helps with moisture
