Motivational Mondays: Your circumstances do not define who you are

There is something about doing something completely unproductive: lounging on the sofa in leggings watching the new 'About a Boy' series on TV, which if you are wondering about, is very funny!

And then being hit by a moment of inspiration which leads to something that is productive : todays motivational monday post.

I think it's the fact that I am allowing my mind to take a break.... either way, it allows me to justify those lazy TV moments to myself

That moment of inspiration came through this advert below. The Sapeurs are a "society of elegant persons of the Congo", and they have a simple philosophy, which is to defy circumstance and live with joie de vivre (which means a joy of living )

The words

"In life you cannot always choose what you do, but you can always choose who you are" and
"With every dress and every cufflink, we say I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul"

crept into my heart and challenged me.

The words challenged me to look at my life and make a commitment to live it well, to not allow my circumstances to dictate how I feel and to take responsibility for my life and how I choose to live it.

Have you seen the advert? What did you think?

Did you have your epiphany of joie de vivre way before me? And if you did, how are you choosing to do that each day? Let me know in the comments below

Also am I the only one who thought I need a lot more colour in my wardrobe after watching the advert? their outfits were so vivid and bright.... time for a wardrobe overhaul me thinks...ok well, maybe not too much of an overhaul but a little colour should do it...

have a lovely monday. xx

I kind of disagree with the first statement. I believe you can choose what you do. Maybe more so in the developed world but I generally believe what you do and who you are, are of your making to a large extent. I fully agree with being master of fate and captain of soul. One must take responsibility for themselves and their direction. I choose to be happy no matter what. Sometimes it's mind over matter, but positively rules! I do love that advert though, so stylish!

I know what you mean about the first statement from the quote, especially with it being less relevant to the developed world. Yet another thing to be thankful for : -). I think it's definitely all about your attitude and love what you said "I choose to be happy no matter what". x
